Burn ONe's Waterworld

By Bixyl Shuftan

Over the weekend from Friday August 19 to Sunday August 21, Burn ONe's "Waterworld" event took place. The event was a tribute to the 1995 post-apocalyptic movie in which the ocean levels have risen to the point of covering the entire planet. Those humans that survived the dwindling amount of land had to adapt by living at and off the sea, some on ships and boats, others on floating communities called "atolls" that are often centers of trading.

All the land from the Baker Beach build weeks ago was gone. There were two spots one could land on the sim. One was a ship known as "The Deez" (the old Exxon Valdez, which in real life would be sold and later scraped years after the movie).

The other was the atoll, which I never really heard a name for.

Quite a bit of work went into it. No single artist was involved, but a number.

Underwater wasn't forgotten, and some builds were placed there.

The highest point, which was probably a lookout tower.

Boats would go in and out through the front gates.

There was a game area, which was in use one time I dropped by.

"Home sweet hovel."

Not quite sure what the people in the "Waterworld" movie would have thought of video arcade games.

I guess one would be calling the other side of the town.

More than just fish for food, thanks to someone being able to get dirt of the ocean floor.

Looks like some builder decided to get a head.

Still able to have treats.

Looking at the gate from the boat area.

The edge of the event area. Those who didn't want to dance could sit.

There were gifts available to people.

During the three-day event itself, there would be a number of dance parties, with DJs playing music.

With avatars of different kinds showing up.

Some dressed up for a water party of a different theme.

Burners being Burners, there were a few fire bombs tossed around.

Among the DJs there was Grease Coakes

Someone tried flying the float plane during his session.

At Midnight of each of the three days, there would be a showing of the movie.

Mia Wallace, who was part of the event, would make a list of others involved.

WATERWORLDS BUILDERS & CONTRIBUTORs  who all collaborated to co-create a Waterworld Art Installation @ Burn ONe!
Ray, Mia, Xiija, Belli, Trinity, Sophie, Miranda, Vesi, Cobbie, Seraphe, Minka, Laurelle, Grease Coakes, Wisdom, Vickie, Zoren, Beasil, Lyric & Magii, Ron & Mocha, Nim & Jce, ELBY, Xiled, larree, Herbie, Panda

The build will last a few more days, at least until Monday August 29. I haven't heard of any future plans for Highup. So it's possible with the presumed burning of the atoll, the sim becomes much like the waterlike void sims and soon joins them.

As for what's next for the Burn ONe group, there's talk of a summer solstice event for next year. What will they do before that. That remains to be planned out.

"How Does Your Club Choose Its Themes?"

By Bixyl Shuftan

This is a question we hear once in a while, but not that often. Usually when we hear "How does that club choose it's themes?" it's a reference to some other club.

The Happy Vixen strives for a variety of events. But we also make an effort to talk on occasion to the DJs and hostesses for ideas. Over time, they've come with some great suggestions. We also take suggestions from you the fans. The majority, we (Snowy and I) come up with the themes for the next week every Monday night.

Our guidelines are not to repeat the same thing too often. So once we've had a theme, we usually wait at least two or three months before having it again. We keep track of what theme's we've done and when we last had them. Lately, we've also been making an effort to keep track of attendance to better help which themes are best liked. It's not perfect as some of our slots are outside "prime time" when not as many people are logged onto Second Life, but it does the job. Events with a lot of people are naturally more likely to repeated sooner.

As most of our regulars our furs, we often have avatar themes such as foxes and bunnies. Most weeks we have at least one color theme, such as Best in Red. Some any avatar can take part in such as Ears and Tails. Some are fun themes such as Videogames and Hollywood. Some are funny such as Tacky and Worst Superhero. Being a beach club, we occasionally have Swimwear and beach party, but we try not to overdo it. And some are on the teasing side such as Lingire and Cute & Sexy.

And we occasionally experiment. There have been times one event a week is a "Come As You Are" or CAYA. This saves those coming over from having to change outfits and avatars for one party.

A few months ago, we were asked by the community chief to help run a second club, "I want a bunny club." And so the same minds behind the Happy Vixen were tasked with the Bouncing Bunny Beach Club, with two weekly time slots moved from the Happy Vixen to there. So what does this mean as far as theme choices go?  Not much, although an event that appeared in one club will occasionally be at the other the next month.

We know some clubs have something only they do. Club Cutlass has it's Wednesday "Alphabet" events. The Furry Fashion Lounge has it's Friday Late Night. We've heard of others having "Topless Tuesday" parties every week. What's special about us? Well, we try to be not just the beach club of the Sunweaver community, but a nice little place to relax and have fun in. And of course once the party is over, feel free to play a game or watch a movie.

Addition: I originally finished this article a few weeks ago, but delayed publishing it when real life stepped in. While I can no longer be at the events as often as I could (at least for now), I still help choose the themes.

Biker Rally at ZZ Studios

A friend of mine had told me ZZ Studios, the exotic “blue movie” studio, was holding a biker rally on Sunday July 17th. It had originally been scheduled for Saturday, but after hearing about the Relay for Life walk moved the event up a day. The event was at 6PM Second Life time, just across the street from the Studio’s theater and social club in Falcon Valley.

So what’s a biker rally hosted by an adult media company like on the Grid? There were a few more women than the one’s I’ve seen in real life, sometimes with skimpier clothing, and there wasn’t any beer. But they had the essential element: motorcycles. Over a dozen motorbikes were parked in the lot. To get around the prim limit, two riders brought in a couple more bikes by staying mounted on them. And of course, Miss Cindy “Zig Zag” Babi, the infamous tigerstriped skunkgirl whom was the owner and main actress of ZZ Studios, was there.

Most of the bikes were made up from 28-39 prims, some looking fairly well designed. But there was one monster primhog, the GSXR88, taking up 239 prims. While well detailed, those on the Grid whom have had to deal with lag (and who hasn’t) might question the wisdom of using all those prims. Also, maybe it was a glitch of the Grid that particular day, but periodically the GSXR88 would vanish then gradually rezz prim by prim.

The DJ for the event was Husky Fang. And just what music gets played at a ZZ Studios biker rally? Most were pop hits one could expect at most any other party. They included, “The Reanimator,” “Numa Numa,” a Tron “Derezzed” remix, which got Cindy going, “Wow! I like this song,” and of course one skunk song, “Stamp on the Ground.” Also played was “I Can Only Imagine,” which I hadn’t heard in Second Life since a visit to a Christian club. And the DJ played one song just for one biker ...

On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round

And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found

The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone

She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone.

Bad to the bone!

Bad to the bone!

B-B-B-B-Bad

B-B-B-B-Bad

Bad to the bone!

They talked about the bikes and the music, but talk went to other things. Somehow food and deserts came up, and conversation turned to cheesecake. One of the girls sighed, “Cheesecake? Oh, I would make LOVE for cheesecake.” Some of the guys promptly began doing Internet research for cheesecake recipes.

Cindy Babi had a bike of her own in the rally, her “Super Sybian.” But at another point she rezzed something else, a kind of rideable jet. Readers may remember from her interview “never put Zig Zag in the cockpit,” so what would happen if she tried driving the thing? The jet launched, and quickly zipped around the office building. It quickly went past the beach, and into the water. But before the engine’s fire was flooded out, she got it out of the water, and ZOOOM!! It took off like a rocket. Within a couple seconds, the jet was out of view. Would Cindy end up being the first porn star in orbit? A minute later, she walked back to the bike rally. She had managed to get away before becoming an accidental astronaut without a suit.

It was soon time to judge the bikes. Third place went to Valen Greymoon, second to Krae Evanier, and first went to Polecatt Merryman, who owned the GSXR88. But the crowd wanted a little more, and Cindy agreed to a “Burnout” contest. Krae and Valen entered, along with “Bad to the Bone” Ronald Milev. One after another, the two biker babes and biker guy drove to the street, revved their engines, and sped down the road for a short stretch. Krae Evanier was declared the winner of the Burnout and 600 Lindens.

With the end of the contest, the bikers began going their separate ways. And this ended the bike rally at ZZ Studios.
