A Fun Busy Weekend

By Gemma Cleanslate

It was a fun busy weekend in Second Life for me. Saturday morning as usual I read the SL Newser and then I read The Gazette which is the newspaper of the BBB( Bellisseria Bureau of Bureaucracy) Group. I always read this paper on Saturday (after I read the SL Newser) when it is released because besides the news or interview that appears there it also shows the new locations for the passport stamps. I have been collecting the stamps for long time. There are stamp terminals all over the grid. It is great to visit so many new places . I often get ideas for articles by doing this.

I took time to attend a fishing contest. which I did not win or even get close but it was fun.
The big discussion in the Bellisseria Citizen Group was shopping. Dreamer Pixelmaid was passing out information on bargains which I had to go check out. Then it was time for real life running.

Sunday I attended three events . The first was a visit to the always huge Bay City Anniversary celebration. I am sorry to say I missed the parade but got to the great party. DJ GoSpeed Rasere (GoSpeed Racer) was spinning tunes when I arrived and after greeting all I hopped on the fun conga line they have there for all the events.

Following GoSpeed the live singers took over with lovely songs . There were 50 + at the party having a great time.

Next I stopped over at the Sunday party at Virtual Ability where Stepin always has great tunes for the members and invited visitors. There was an ongoing discussion about banned books going on and most agreed in principle that banning in libraries that are the collectors of data and information for the public is never good. There was also the usual fun banter. Mook remarked that his bucket list was filled with books he wanted to read and food he wanted to taste.

My next trip was to a Cultural Diversity street party hosted by Sondee was under way. The street was lined with booths of food and information from many countries. I of course grabbed a piece of pizza , one of my favorite foods. ÐĴ ८hocoŁatε Śiη™ (Tyesia Xevious) had some great music going on.

I forget to tell you that Jadin Emerald has installed a fun high diving platform at Yosemite High Sierra.
If you would like to try it go over and you can get a chute and HUD and try it out! I took a few jumps.

It has been a while since I had the opportunity. Then take a walk in the forest and look around. There is a travel hud available to help you get all over both High Sierra and Yosemite. If you want to “chicken out “ it will take you down to the entrance where you can grab the hud. There is also a nice back pack full of goodies for visiting and camping at Yosemite,

Bay City, "Hot Bay City Nights," And Other Events

By Deaflegacy

Marianne McCann is a resident of Bay City.  She also organize and run the Bay City Alliance, a group for other Bay City residents to meet and work together to the betterment of the community.  Marianne also had the great, good fortune of being able to help manage and present events for Bay City for several years now.  As long as the folks feel that Marianne is doing a good job, as long as she physically can, and as long as Second Life and Bay City exists, she will continue doing that.

Marianne hopes that Bay City has many more years to come.  “It's a great community with some great people in it. I hope we'll see more good folks become its citizens, and we'll continue to have fun long into the future..” said Marianne.

“Bay City is a unique little slice of the Second Life mainland. It's about 24 residential regions and about the same number of Linden Lab owned ones, decorated by the LDPW "Moles." It's loosely themed to the American Urban Experience, circa 1945-1965, with a distinct art deco influence. Unlike much of the mainland, Bay City has developed a strong community of folks who have sought to make the place all that more special.” said Marianne.

Marianne would say that Bay City is a very special place because it's a great blend of people and places, all seemingly working in concert.  It makes Marianne happy to see.

Bay City will have large events just about monthly.  Most are concerts, or at least have a musical components.  They can take many forms.  For an example, February “Mole day” event honors the LPWD, and their work helping to build Bay City.  In the holidays, they have a “Tree Lighting” event that includes charitable giving and live music, etc. They also have two weekly events.  Their meetings happen every Tuesday, while a weekly “rumble” race happens Thursday nights.  Toward the end of September, they usually have their Oktoberfest.  Oktoberfest is a Germanic tradition.  All big beer-focused, harvest-time event.  Oktoberfest is usually a couple hours long, with Djed music and much celebrating. Details are, as yet, pending.

Marianne would recommend Bay City to newcomers who come to Second Life for the first time.  “It's a great place to sightsee and explore, with a lot of mole and resident made content with visiting.” said Marianne.  “It's a good place and a great community.”

I got a chance to ask Marianne about "Hot Bay City Nights".  Marianne said, "Well, the "Hot Bay City Nights" event is designed to be a vintage car show and sale, focusing on the Bay City "theme era" of 1945-1965. We will bring in vendors to show their cars at the fairgrounds. We also have a couple other events at the same time: car washes to support Child's Play Charity, and the "Miss Bay City" pageant."

The first "Hot Bay City Nights" was in 2012.  The name is a take-off on "Hot August Nights", an annual vintage/custom car show in Reno, Nevada.

As long as the folks are interested and Linden Lab keeps the lights on, then Marianne suspects that they will keep doing it.

"Well, it's a group effort. This year it was primarily ran by Maureen Boccaccio and ADudeNamed Anthony, in that they did much of the decor, arranged for the vendors, and organized a lot of other details. I was also part of the planning and set up. Meanwhile, Evola Courtois managed our charity car wash, GoSpeed Racer DJed Miss Bay City, and Pygar Bu emceed Miss Bay City. So it's really done by a number of us around town." said Marianne when asked about people in charge of "Hot Bay City Nights".

"Hot Bay City Nights" ran from August 19 to 27, 2017.  Miss Bay City was held during the event on the 27th.  The car wash was held on the 23rd, if Marianne's memory serves.

Sounds like I have missed out on the fun but there is always next year and I'm already looking forward to the next event!

You can look up more about Bay City at it's Community Center at Daley Bay (234/24/25)

Update on the Politcal Locations

By Bixyl Shuftan

Since it was revealed that the Trump HQ and Manor had moved out from the Lionheart Ahadi sim, and a Hillary Clinton HQ erected in it's place, there have been a few developments on the political side of Second Life. When I dropped by to interview Candace Larganta, the owner of the Clinton HQ, there was a new Trump building next to it, this one with "Hillary for Prison" signs. I would later get in contact with JP Laszlo, and he would confirm, "Yes that is (by) myself, myself and my friend." When asked why he didn't leave a marker at the old location, "Biding my time.....I also don't have anywhere for people to go so I'm mainly just putting the sign there to irritate the Hillary people."

About when the new Trump HQ would be open to the public, JP stated he couldn't give a date due to complications, "Wish I could. I wish I knew myself, I really do. My builder is tied down at work and grabbing every spare minute they can. Be aware though the tone of the place has shifted somewhat tongue in cheek. ... It is more of a hangout and less of a serious HQ anymore. Trump supporters come here, even non Trump supporters. We all have a good time and the sim is Trump-themed but beyond the theme we aren't pushing an agenda."

Of their new build, JP stated it was being based on the building in a rather strange video titled "Japanese Donald Trump Commercial," saying of the build,"The style is authoritarian vaporwave. It's going to be very abstract and surreal. ... the capital building is a sim length, takes up the whole north end of the sim. It's (one) quarter hangout, (one) quarter art project, (one) quarter political expression, and a quarter personal project."

JP stated that the Sanders HQ in Caspoli was gone, "Well, Bernie's campaign is over. He hasn't got a chance. So why would they waste money on land?" JP was a little unhappy with them over the earlier accusations about their Trump Wall trying to infect people with a computer virus, "My friend was putting up endless signs to get them to apologize for saying she tried to infect people with a virus over the whole teleport thing. In the Bernie group they sent a notice saying they were closing partly due to 'ongoing harassment.' Well I'm sorry if asking for an apology for defaming remarks is harassment in her book, good riddance. ... I am sure even yourself would feel injustice of being accused of such things when you were merely attempting to engage in friendly banter." When I mentioned the "less than friendly banter, thrown around by members of both parties," JP responded, "Sure is, but one cannot control what others do. All one can do is aspire to fight a clean fight by ones words and actions. And I assure you I have done just that in real life and Second Life. I have played by the rules and punched above the belt."

Dropping by the Caspoli sim, the Sanders HQ location was indeed gone, the area now an unspoiled beach instead of a monument to what might have been. But heading to "Feel the Bern" at Young (162/26/2018), the location was still up. Somehow, the sign "I assure you, we're open" sign seemed a little more prominent. When I contacted the owner, Addie Tozz, she would only respond that she would continue to support Sanders.

Following my interview with her, Candace Larganta informed me there was a new Clinton HQ that had gone up, this one in Bay City, at (Argos 36, 253, 25). Dropping by, it was a two-story brick building. On the inside was a podium where someone could give a speech to a small crowd, with American and Bay City flags on either side of the stage. To the right were givers for free Clinton T-shirts, both men's and women's, and campaign signs for Clinton and "Dump Trump." Upstairs there was a simpler stage with a Clinton campaign poster behind it that looked a tad propagandish.

Across the street, it was clear a Trump supporter was out to "irritate the Hillary people." Someone had set up a huge (or is that huuuge) "Trump: Make America Great Again" sign. But later on, one of Bay City's residents showed me a picture that showed the locals were more than capable of matching the Trump supporters jabs with their own humor: "Cheese: Make America Grate Again."

So what else will the Trump supporters do in Bay City? We're "nacho" sure.

Stay tuned for more political news in Second Life as one of the more unique US Presidential elections in recent history is reflected in the virtual world.
